The former CFO of a Queensland jewellery chain store has been sentenced to seven years jail for stealing $1.4m from her employer.
According to a report in the Australian Financial Review, Anna Rajkowski, 33, pleaded guilty in the Brisbane District Court to two counts of defrauding Kings Jewellers while she held the post of CFO between 2007 and 2009. Prosecutor Ken Spinaze told the court Rajkowksi was manipulated into stealing by her former lover, Luise Touli, who said she would otherwise take her own life.
The report claims more than 60 people lost their jobs as a report of the fraud, which caused significant cashflow issues for the business and saw seven stores closed. The theft was revealed during an audit in 2011.
Touli has already been sentenced to nine years jail for her part in the crime, while Rajkowksi was sentenced to seven years but will be eligible for parole in August 2015.
